EFFECTIVE MEDICINE – OPTIMAL HEALTH
Dr Aryan Tavakkoli has a 25 year background in hospital medicine. She worked as a specialist in respiratory medicine and has held substantive consultant posts in the NHS and in New Zealand. She now practises as an integrative doctor with a special interest in integrative oncology, having studied with the American Institute of Integrative Oncology.
Dr Tavakkoli is also a Functional Medicine doctor, and holds qualifications in Nutrition, Class 3B laser therapy, Oxidative and Photonic Medicine, phytotherapy (Western herbal medicine), TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) acupuncture, HeartMath technology and clinical hypnotherapy.
She qualified from the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1991. She completed her specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine in South East Thames, training in centres of excellence including St Thomas’ Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital, and obtained her Certificate of Certified Specialist Training in 2000. She has an extensive background in the diagnosis, investigation and management of respiratory disease, previously holding substantive consultant posts both in the NHS and in New Zealand’s public health service.
During her career as a conventional medical doctor, Dr Tavakkoli developed an interest in other approaches to healthcare. She studied and obtained qualifications in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture from the British College of Acupuncture in 1998 and in Phytotherapy (Western herbal medicine) from the British College of Phytotherapy in 2002. Her continued interest in the different paths of disease management led her to discover other approaches including Functional Medicine, Integrative Medicine and mind-body techniques, which she now incorporates into her clinical practice for the benefit of her patients.
Dr Tavakkoli offers a progressive approach to support adults with cancer, combining her extensive experience in conventional medicine with the benefits of Functional Medicine and Integrative Medicine, to provide what she considers to be a more effective approach that enables her to address the root causes of disease and to offer a more holistic experience for her patients.
In her practice at Quantum Clinic, Dr Tavakkoli uses state of the art laboratory tests to identify root causes of disease such as chronic inflammation, infection, nutritional deficiencies, environmental triggers for disease, and imbalances in biochemical/gastrointestinal /hormonal/immune and other body systems, then addresses the underlying problem using integrative therapies.
Her aim is to approach the problem at root level and therefore enable her patients to achieve long term wellness and a better quality of life than would be achieved by using an allopathic medical approach alone.
Dr Tavakkoli is regularly invited to speak at conferences about integrative cancer support. She has written chapters for numerous books including the textbook, Plant-based Nutrition in Clinical Practice and has contributed as a speaker in the University of Winchester’s course on Lifestyle Medicine for Cancer Prevention and Survivorship.
Dr Tavakkoli is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, member of the British Society for Ecological Medicine, allied member of OncANP (The Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians), member of the General Naturopathic Council, member of the British Medical Laser Association, member of the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis, member of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK, and member of the Independent Doctors Federation.
